JoAnn Delhomme started teaching swimming lessons out of her home on Myrtle Place in 1963. Then, when the Delhomme Family moved to Mary view Farm Road in 1972, they continued teaching swimming lessons to the people of Acadiana.
JoAnn Opened the Get Wet Shop in 1978. It began as Delhomme Swim Supply, providing lycra racing suits to local and area competitive swim teams. She would attend the swimming competitions, in which several of her children competed, and sell merchandise out of the back of her station wagon packed neatly in her notorious chicken boxes.
In 1978, the building at 207 Jefferson Street in Lafayette was purchased and the first storefront GET WET SHOP was built.
As the business and Acadiana grew, we built a new store next to Acadiana Lanes on Ambassador Caffery Parkway in 1982. This modern facility offers all the conveniences when shopping for leisure, swim, and dance wear.
